Descriptions are hard too... Cat/ 18/ Hufflepuff. Ranter. Proud member of the Moffia. Possibly immature, possibly vain, definitely opinionated, nice anyway (most of the time, I like to think so, etc.) No idea where I'm going in life... |

you know when you ask your sister to get you some gummy candy but you really mean SOUR gummy candy so when she comes home with your gummy bears you are very disappointed and forget them in the sun and then they congeal into one single 990 calorie gummy rectangle and you spend 10 minutes cutting it out of the bag so you can take a picture for the internet

Ugh, this bullshit. Will Smith’s reaction to that was proportionate if not very restrained; it is NOT HOMOPHOBIC not to want a random stranger to make out with you without your consent.
Wait, what? What is he trying to say?
Is THIS what people are getting upset over?
Because it looks like he’s not so much making a dig at bisexuality as making fun of the stereotype itself.
I don’t think he was trying to be offensive, I was just so confused as to what he was attempting to get at…
I agree with the commentary so far: he was mocking the stereotype, clearly not expressing a genuine opinion. I mean, anyone who doesn’t get that has serious problems with reading comprehension and perception of tone in writing etc. Unfortunately that’s true of a lot of people on tumblr so he’s going to get tons of shit for no reason again.
Are people being OFFENDED by this? Seriously? For fuck’s sake, grow up. Tis a JOKE. I’m going to put my “as a bisexual” twopennys worth in here and point out that, as a bisexual, I thought this was funny.
I’m making a new law by which anyone who puts tweets of Steven Moffat’s on tumblr and tries to make out that he’s being sexist/masoginistic/homophobic/WHATEVER is going to be lined up and personally bitchslapped by me. The man is a wonderful human being and I am fed up of all this shit because 90% of people on the internet are too up their own arses to be able to take a joke.
Jeez.
In other words, Benedict Cumberbatch saying fuck you to all the “Moffat is a misogynist” Moff haters out there.
I applaud you, Sir!
In other words, he’s eradicating what are very legitimate feelings about Steven Moffat’s writing.
And you’re helping him. Well done you.
#i love benedict as much as the next person #but he is a white heterosexual cisgender man claiming another white heterosexual cisgender man is not misogynist
“I don’t understand how these fans don’t realise that calling people out for offensive/problematic remarks is not the same as bashing or hating.”
Not inherently, no. My personal problem with it though is
1. It often turns into that. Saying that someone has said something sexist is one thing. Saying that someone is a misogynist piece of shit based on one misquote or ambiguous statement, is another. And plenty of people have personally attacked him on twitter for things like this.
2. “calling out” seems to me to be often used as an excuse to bash someone; so ‘fans’ will over-analyse and deliberately misinterpret remarks in order to attack someone and then since it’s under the guise of “calling out”, no one can judge them for it. As is the case here: http://glamonabudget.tumblr.com/post/23407655961/mewiet-theillustriousmissjo-pyrobot
3. The arguments for calling Steven Moffat sexist and biphobic are the majority of the time incredibly weak and often promote problematic ideas themselves. Case in point: http://glamonabudget.tumblr.com/post/23668057438/dear-doctor-who-fandom-why-rivers-queerness-does-not
Basically I’m sick of these arseholes in the fandom and I’m quite pleased with Benedict for expressing his disdain as well. There is nothing wrong (in fact, there’s everything right) in calling out sexism. I just don’t think that’s what going on here. I think what’s going on in most cases is that people don’t like Moffat and are going to look for reasons to back that up that leave them immune to disagreement (because anyone who disagrees is just sorry for the poor straight white man, ryt?) and misappropriate feminism to do so which is pretty disgusting tbh.
